Joseph asks…
Where can I find an online users manual for my Admiral VCR?
I have an Admiral VCR that has locked itself. and I no longer can find my original owner/user manual. I need to find one online, so I can figure out how to unlock it. Thank You.
James Conley answers:
Since Admiral is no longer in business, remants bought out by Maytag which was merged into Whirlpool, odds are slim of finding any online manuals from this past manufacturer. Nothing on the Whirlpool site to suggest any presence of manuals from Admiral. Occasionnally consumers will submit manuals to sites that sell used equipment (e.g. Amazon.com), but not likely to find this on Amazon given it’s age. EBay also sells owner’s manuals for Admiral (run a search on “Admiral VCR manual”, but why pay $3 + shipping for something that probably not have the solution to your locking problem.
Be sure to try all the usual culprits for repair, unplug for a few minutes as a reset or look for a reset pin push in the back. Given the lack of warantee, I wouldn’t hesitate to open up the case and see if you can force it to unlock.
Below is a fact sheet on Admiral (if it has any interest):
Admiral was a medium-sized manufacturer of consumer electronics goods and electric appliances during the late 1930s, when its annual sales were about $2 million. Led by Ross D. Siragusa, the company grew rapidly during the 1940s and 1950s, selling thousands of televisions manufactured at plants in Chicago. By the beginning of the 1960s, when annual sales approached $300 million, the company employed 8,500 people, many of them Chicago-area residents. Like many American electronics manufacturers, Admiral found it difficult to withstand foreign competition during the 1960s and 1970s. By the 1980s, the remnants of Admiral were owned by Maytag, an Iowa-based manufacturer of appliances.

James Conley answers:
Hi, if you can either not find the answer in the manual or lost the manual, you should probably contact someone who specializes in Maytag repairs. Appliance repair businesses, such as Superior Appliance, have employees who specialize in specific repairs, including Maytag washer and Maytag dryer repair. For more information on appliance repairs, you might want to check out http://www.mrsuperior.com. Good luck!
