Ken asks…
The question is,”Is this the biggest scam ever?
i have my central heating insured byBritish Gas also my home electrics as well as my plumbing.i also have 9 kitchen appliances insured through them. recently i had to call them out to fix my microwave which was just over 4 years old which was fitted same time as my new kitchen (micowave cost around £400 fitted) when the guy came to fix it he said he would return at a later date when a new part was in stock, the next time he came he informed my wife that he was unable to repair it and said someone would phone me to arrange a replacement. when they did phone i was offered £21 argos gift voucher on a take it or leave it basis. Well wow is this not a scam ??? i am shortly going to cancell my insurance and save the money in a seperate account and save it and use it as needed and if it is not needed i still have my hard earned cash !!! What do you think??”

Don’t know if it’s the biggest, but it sounds like you are indeed being scammed. There is no reason that the required part wouldn’t be available on a four year old appliance. My guess is it was expensive and they decided to put that problem on you rather than themselves.

It’s a no brainer – claim on your home insurance – but read the small print first as Insurance co’s will try to avoid a claim whenever possible these days.
With new basic ones available from £100 and repair men costing £150 per day plus parts – it’s simply not going to happen – that’s why Comet/Curries etc all sell the extended warranty stuff all the time……
Bin it – harsh but true (The Planet’s got no chance really – has it!)
Daniel asks…
Just bought a house, we found a fault are we responsible for fixing it?
Ok we just bought our house, like JUST.. has barely been over a month. My husand was leaning against the wall in the kitchen yesterday and the freaking wall flexed in. Someone at sometime had done a repair and slapped a new piece of drywall up, but never attached it to the studs in the middle, so when you push on it, it flexes in and out. (nice huh?) Anyways, of course we had the house inspected b4 we purchased it, but obviously going around and pushing on every wall is not a regular part of an inspection. We do have a home warranty for a year, but from what I am reading it only covers appliances, heating, a/c, plumbing and the roof. Anyways just curious if anyone knows a way we would be covered to have this fixed or are we just going to have to pay for this? Any suggestions about what to do would be fabulous. We are first time home-buyers and unfortunately a tad clueless about how this works.
James Conley answers:
Real estate agents have a contract with the seller. There are two types of contracts, one is an “AS-IS” house, you buy it from the seller in “AS-IS” condition.
The other is covered for a certain amounts of months (could even be days).
The agent (if a reputable company) will also have in their contract hidden damages that will be covered for a number of days or months.
You might be covered for the repair or the labor or both.
Of course your home insurance would probably cover it too.
