Your Questions About Dishwasher Repair Cost

Carol asks…

How to drain or unplug a dishwasher?

WE HAVE A DISHWASHER THAT WAS USED LAST, A MONTH AGO, WE WENT UP NORTH TO FRESNO FOR NEW YEAR’S AND SINCE THEN THE WATER HASN’T DRAINED OUT. WHAT DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND WE DO? IT’S NOT FULL OF FOOD BITS AND STUFF, AND WE NEVER ALLOWED ANY ITEMS TO LINGER IN THE DISHWASHER. WE TRIED RUNNING IT AGAIN BUT THAT DIDN’T WORK. ANY IDEAS?
i’ll try that but then that means that i have to remove the filter, i’ve already used the disposal at first that’s what i thought was wrong. thanks

James Conley answers:

I’m assuming that you’ve detached the drain hose from the disposal and checked for blockage (both in the hose and in the neck of the disposal where it clamps on).

If there is no obstruction, then either the pump has failed, or the solenoid controlling the drain valve has failed… Or the relay and/or control wiring that actuates them has failed. If you don’t know how to troubleshoot this yourself, you should have a tech look at it. Often, these days, it’s cheaper to replace a dishwasher than to have it repaired, depending on the component that has failed. The efficiency and energy savings of a newer unit (depending on your unit’s age) may well offset the difference in the price between repairing yours (parts and labor) and the cost of a new dishwasher altogether.

If you want to troubleshoot it, check for voltage at the solenoid and the pump motor when the unit starts the drain cycle.

James asks…

Kenmore dishwasher will only work on one setting?

At two years old should it be repaired or replaced?Lucky for us the normal wash setting works, but none of the others .Will it limp along or croak?

James Conley answers:

Use it tell it breaks cuz most of time its the mother board and they cost same as new

Susan asks…

How to repair a plastic refrigerator drawer that melted shape in the dishwasher?

My husband put our drawer from the Refrigerator in the dishwasher to clean it and it melted shape. Can I reshape it?
Not that easy to replace as it is for a RV medium size fridge. I will try the suggestions before purchasing. So far one seems worth at least trying and then yes a special order is the next step.

James Conley answers:

Lol my husband did the same thing, typical man thing huh!! 🙂
i had to buy a new one, i told hubby it cost 60 bucks but it only cost 30, i figured i deserved compensation for the freak out factor he put me through lol , i brought a lovely bouquet of flowers for the dining room table with the other 30 bucks 🙂
