Your Questions About Ge Appliance Repair Center

Richard asks…

My oven brolier shorted out/broke. Can I just replace the element?

My oven was pre heating and then there was a loud electrical short sound and arcs inside. I shut off the breaker and now there is 2″ section of the element laying on the bottom. Can i just replace the element?

James Conley answers:

Yes you can.

Simple fix, unplug oven, remove oven racks, remove two screws inside oven, gently pull old element out far enough to get to the plugs, unplug wires, bend wires slightly so they won’t retract into the housing and replace in reverse order. On a GE range the wires can be unplugged by removing the center panel on the back of the stove (6 screws) makes it a bit easier since the wires don’t have much slack. New elements are usually in the $50 range and can be bought from most appliance stores or appliance repair shops.

Charles asks…

general electric extended warrenty…for refrigerator purchased at Circuit City, in Sarasota, Fl.?

We bought a Maytag side-by-side refrigerator about 6 years ago from Circuit City, and purchased an extended warrenty 2 times. Circuit City no longer sells refrigerators, and evidently sold their extended warrenty contracts to General Electric. Our refrigerator has stopped running and we have called the number on our contract, gotten a confirmation no. and the recording says we’ve been assigned to Desoto Appliances, RPR and to call them to check on our repair time. I called them, and they said they no longer service the Sarasota, Fl. area, and faxed the work order back to GE. We cannot get ahold of anyone at GE extended warrenty to tell them this fact, and when we call, we just keep getting a recording that says we have an appointment scheduled with this business that will not service our area! Meanwhile, our food is spoiling, and we’re getting very upset. If we don’t get some action soon, we plan to contact TV channel 8 in Tampa. They investigate consumer complaints. Help us!

Steven asks…

Need help with refrigerator Problems!!?

My family has a two-door GE refrigerator. We bought it like four years ago. Everything works fine until a week ago from now, the water won’t come out the water tube. But the ice maker and ice function works fine. (Sorry can’t describe more clearly, only been in US for four years, and English is not too good for now.) Can anybody help? We can’t figure out what’s wrong with it.
Thank you.
